Seems like a good team guy/scrapper but I'm really worried about this team getting too slow. They already have the slowest blueline to date, and we already have Zubrus too.
The fact that the Sharks instantly got faster and better when they shipped him off is also concerning. But as long as it isn't a huge overpayment, whelp... at least we did something |

Clowe 435 games, 10 GWGs, and 1 in 70 playoff games.
Clarkson 426 games, 20 GWGs, 4 in 44 playoff games.
Last season paces:
Clowe 6 goals 33 assists
Clarkson 26 goals 15 assists
Seeing how there's one guy that scores more than 30 on the Devils and two that can score more than 20 (Henrique and Elias, possibly Loktionov), where are Clowe's assists going to come from?? See, SJ had Boyle, Marleau, and Couture to facilitate his offense. Taking last season's GF numbers, you could say that SJ was a 10% more offensive team than the Devils, so you can even scratch off 10% of Clowe's numbers.
Better than Clarkson? Unfortunately, just like Zidlicky and Tallinder, we're going to have to find this one out the hard way. |

As long as the price isn't insane i like it. Quality depth/role player. Yeah we need goals but you also need 4 lines that you can roll out confidently. Something we didn't not have for a game last year. |

You're basing who's better off production in a shortened season? Not the best thing to do... |

I'm sorry but your whole argument doesn't really make sense. Players have gone from worse offensive teams to better and had worse production. Players have gone from better offensive teams to worse and had better production. This happened just last year when he moved to NY and his numbers improved. |

And our record wasn't exactly what we wanted it to be last year.
Edit: but I hear you, I'm not against picking Clowe up, especially since we dont even know the terms yet or anytihng yet. From what the SJ fans say, they all loved to have him on their team doing all the dirty work and whatnot. I've learned to trust Lou over the years. |

And unfortunately, when people were talking about Zidlicky's numbers during the trade, they kept mentioning his golden era and ignoring the fact that he was completely useless in Minnesota, so useless that they took him off their power play (and for good reason).
You can mention Clowe's career numbers, but I'd say in only 3 of 10 cases do recent numbers lie. He was putting those numbers up this season either because he's injured or because he's out of shape, or because he's not working hard enough. Either way, I really don't want him in NJ. He's a third line player at best. He's not an improvement on D'Agostini and Butler. |

I doubt anyone thinks Clowe is better. But, with Clarkson leaving (and if his contract demands are true food riddance) than NJ needs to add some grit & some bangers in addition to what we already knew: they need offense.
At least Lou isn't getting burned this time like he did with Parise, playing the waiting game, giving the player all the leverage. He's actively looking for Clarkson's replacement while still leaving that option open if Clarkson's ego finally comes back to a normal range.
Close may end up being a cheaper option. He's a top 9, and though we have plenty of those, I'd take him over Josefson, Tedenby, Poni, Sullivan, Dags for example.
Lou still has to address a top 6, but like I said, at least he's not in front of the player grabbing his ankles begging like was for Parise. Hope he learned his lesson. |

I just don't see it, though, not from him. Sorry. |

You are putting too much weight on stats, as a Devil fan you should know there is a lot more to the game than goals and assists. |

I wasn't that impressed with him watching him play either. I recognize the other "intangibles" like fighting. But Clarkson is worth more at 6M than this guy is at 4M. I'd pay Clowe 3M/2y tops. Unless you're a defenseman with a good stay at home game, you don't get paid more than 3M to score under ten goals. But NJ overspends on FAs, so they're going to give him some retarded 18M/4y contract and he's going to be untradeable as a result. |

If the price is right. It comes down to:
Clowe @ 3.5 mil > Clarkson @ 6 mil
for example. |

Not at all. Even in a very down year, Clowe had a .48 point per game ratio. Clarkson had a .50 in one of his best. |
